What is a private chef?
A Private Chef or Personal Chef is hired by a family or individual to cook for any and all occasions in a private home. When hiring a Personal Chef, you will want to find a seasoned professional who has undergone formal training such as a culinary institute or experience from an upscale restaurant.
Depending on the needs of the family or individual, a personal chef or private chef can visit as little as once a week, to being a full-time, live-in employee.
Below is a general outline of responsibilities:
A private chefs salary usually runs anywhere from $25-$50 per hour, with full benefits for full time employees.
- Prepare fresh meals on a daily or weekly basis
- Provide 1-3 meals per day, including occasional weekends
- Adhere to the client or family’s diet regime
- Addressing the client’s need to obtain healthier eating habits
- Assist with set up, food preparation, meal presentation and kitchen cleanup for dinner engagements held at the clients residence.
- Maintaining inventory and a stocked pantry at all times
- Grocery shopping for the household
- Preparing and Packaging frozen meals for the week to follow
- Snack preparation
In addition to our regular requirements, our Chefs are required to have a minimum of 4 years recent and relevant work experience; provide certifications such a culinary diploma and/or offer specialty training certificates such as Pâtisserie & Baking, International Cuisine, Nutrition, etc.
